Advice on tiling floors please?

I have just moved and had to rip up the carpet in the bedroom as it was manky. Underneath it is a mixture of ground in underlay and some lino from the 60's! Now my dilemma is, I have little to no money but cant leave it in that state, so I was thinking of either temporarily putting down lino tiles, or adhesive wooden floor planks. How can I buy these inexpensively, and from where? Is it suitable for a dim wit to do, and when I say dim wit I am not exaggerating!
